Major supermarkets and retailers are excluding millions of shoppers from their loyalty programs, according to Which?

Here’s what retailers said:

Boots

At Boots we are committed to offering great prices and value for money to all customers through a wide range of offers, discounts and promotions. Anyone over the age of 13 with a UK postal address can also join the Boots Advantage Card programme. Members can benefit from personalized and exclusive offers in store, online, through our app and in our emails.

Cooperative

The cooperative said which one? that anyone of any age can be a member. For those under 16 years of age, permission from a parent or guardian is required to become members of the Cooperative. To become a member, if you are under 16 years of age, a temporary membership card can be purchased and registered over the phone; a parent or guardian must be present to give permission during registration.

Lidl

Lidl said Which one? that its Lidl Plus app is part of its commitment to offering its customers the best value, allowing them to further improve their customer experience with new features and exclusive campaigns that go beyond promotions.

They said this is in addition to the fact that, as discounters, everything they do is designed to give households access to good food at low prices. However, they remain mindful of those who do not have access to a smartphone or tablet and continue to offer in-store promotions through our Pick of the Week deals.

The current age restriction is in line with legal requirements relating to elements within the app, such as certain promotions or partner offers, including those where adult consent is required. Lidl says it is not aware of any other schemes that are as low as 12/13.

Nectar

We strive to make it as easy and convenient as possible for customers to join Nectar. You can register in a number of ways, including through our website or mobile app, checking in in-store with one of our colleagues, or by contacting our Nectar Helpline team by phone.

The spokesperson added that if a customer contacts the Nectar helpline team, they can manually register for a Nectar account without needing an email address or mobile number. Additional cardholders must be over 18 years of age, except when on behalf of their parents or legal guardians.

Superdrug

Delivery is only available to addresses within the UK and Republic of Ireland, therefore Health and Beauty Card membership reflects this and is available to UK residents aged 13+ or Republic of Ireland residents. (over 16 years old). Customers can sign up and sign up for a physical H&B card or digital card either in-store, online or via the Superdrug app.

Superdrug also reiterated that an address is not needed to become a member. Customers can register in-store or online using their name and an email address, address or phone number.
