Senator Rand Paul tweeted Tuesday that he believed Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg should be jailed for bringing an indictment against former President Donald Trump.
‘An impeachment of Trump would be a sickening abuse of power. The DA should go to jail,” the Kentucky Republican wrote.
Several top Republicans have sided with the former president as it appears likely that he will be impeached for his role in secret money payments given to porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election.
Trump set the internet alight Saturday by saying he would be arrested Tuesday and urging his supporters to “PROTEST, PROTEST, PROTEST!”
DailyMail.com has learned that while he will likely be charged on Wednesday, he will not appear before a judge in New York until next week.

Republicans are calling for a possible politically motivated impeachment as Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (left) is a Democrat and Trump (right) is a Republican.
Trump is scheduled to lead a rally in Waco, Texas, on Saturday as part of his 2024 presidential bid.
The former president’s Republican allies, and even some rivals, have characterized Bragg’s investigation of Trump as politically motivated, since Bragg is a Democrat.
Senator Lindsey Graham said Bragg “has done more to help Donald Trump get elected president than anyone else in America.”
Graham appeared alongside several Republican presidential hopefuls as an unofficial surrogate for Trump, whom he has already endorsed, at Saturday’s Palmetto Family Council Vision ’24 presidential forum in North Charleston.
GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley did not respond to DailyMail.com’s questions about the impeachment pending at the time, but she did speak about the allegation, which she called a “rumor,” Tuesday morning on Fox.
“I think what we know is that when you get involved in political processes like this, it’s more about revenge than justice,” Haley said.
Vice President Mike Pence, who is also considering a 2024 run, also supported Trump, despite falling out with the former president over Jan. 6 and Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
Pence called it “politically charged” and “not what the American people want to see,” in a taped interview with ABC’s Jon Karl on Saturday.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, currently considered Trump’s main threat for the nomination, tried to have it both ways when he addressed the potential impeachment Monday: He criticized her, though he also shamed Trump for his dealings with the porn star.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I do know this: The Manhattan district attorney is a Soros-funded prosecutor,” DeSantis said at a news conference.
‘I don’t know what it takes to pay hush money to a porn star to ensure silence about some sort of alleged affair. I just can’t talk about it,” added the Florida governor.
DeSantis’ dig at Trump opened him up to criticism from some of the MAGA faithful and from Trump himself.
‘Ron DeSanctimonious will likely find out about the FALSE ACCUSATIONS AND FALSE STORIES at some point in the future, as he grows older, wiser and better known, when he is unfairly and illegally targeted by a woman, even classmates who are “underage.” of age” (or possibly a man!),’ Trump posted on Truth Social.
‘I’m sure you’ll want to fight these misfits like me!’
Trump included a photo of DeSantis and several young women, who were allegedly his underage students when he was briefly a teacher.
The authenticity of that photo has not been confirmed.
