A powerful House Republican has been accused of having an affair before filing for divorce from his wife of 36 years.
Camie Green, who was married to House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rep. Mark Green (R-Tenn.), accused him of having a relationship with a younger woman before their split.
In a statement regarding the salacious allegations, Green, 59, said Friday: “This is a difficult time for my family and I, and we are currently going through divorce proceedings.
“As this is a very private matter, I ask that my privacy be respected. I will continue to serve this district with everything I have, as I have for the past five and a half years.”
The allegations emerged in a group chat message sent by Green’s estranged wife that was viewed by DailyMail.com and has since been shared on Capitol Hill.
In the messages, she said she had tried to reconcile her marriage, but the congressman wanted nothing to do with it.

The identity of the woman, believed to be in her thirties, has not yet been revealed.
Green’s wife initially identified her as a reporter, but that was confirmed to be false.
The scorned Ms Green then went on to make more general accusations against male lawmakers, saying they become “intoxicated by power and adoration”.
In an email published by the Flag of NashvilleCamie denounces the “predators” lurking among DC’s power brokers.
“I want other people to be aware of how easily ‘predators’ are available to our husbands. If my story can prevent this tragedy from happening to someone else, I will tell it,” she says.
The couple has been married for 36 years.
Green is a powerful chairman in the Republican-controlled Congress.

She said Green “pushed God out of his life” after associating with people “who were having affairs and divorcing, drinking, partying, all while hosting a weekly Bible study in the basement of our home.”
Green had announced he was retiring from Congress in February, but then abruptly changed his mind and ran for reelection. He is on the ballot in November. He won in 2022 by a margin of more than 20 points.
Amid the growing scandal, Green continued to post about the committee’s work on Friday, posting on X about Chinese precursor chemicals in fentanyl and what he called a national security risk posed by Chinese-made cranes at U.S. ports.
A divorce petition seen by DailyMail.com from Montgomery County, Tennessee, cited “irreconcilable differences” and gave no date or place for the separation. The parties, who were seeking an “uncontested divorce,” agreed to be barred from removing or disposing of marital property.
It bears Green’s signature and was notarized on July 31, 2024. The Tennessee primary was on August 1.
Green, a West Point graduate and former Army flight surgeon, interviewed Saddam Hussein after the mission to capture him in Iraq, then became a hospital executive and a Tennessee state senator.
