Report: Yankees, Padres and Cubs among six teams interested in Giants’ Snell Originally appeared in NBC Bay Area Sports
A handful of teams reportedly have interest in Giants left-hander Blake Snell ahead of the July 30 MLB trade deadline.
One of them resides in the National League West.
The New York Yankees, San Diego Padres and Chicago Cubs are among six teams that have inquired with San Francisco about Snell’s availability to be traded, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported Sunday.
News: Yankees are among 6 teams keeping tabs on Blake Snell. While Giants listen, Snell had a dominant performance Saturday (15 K), SF starters are tearing it up now and they’re just 4 1/2 out of WC. Other complications: NYY in top tax bracket and a $30M player option for 2025

The aggressive Padres are among a half-dozen teams keeping tabs on former pitcher Blake Snell, who won his second Cy Young for them in 2023. There are still questions about a potential trade for BS with SF also playing well now (and Snell dominating on Saturday).

The Cubs are one of six teams also interested in Blake Snell, so it appears they are no longer in selling mode. It’s still unclear if Snell will go anywhere, though his name is clearly in the mix.

The Baltimore Orioles have also checked into Snell’s availability, Heyman said Monday.
The Orioles, with a new, wealthier, winning-oriented owner (and a deep pool of prospects), are aiming high and are among the teams to watch for Blake Snell. Crochet and Skubal (should he be available) are also potential options.

Snell has settled into his rhythm since returning July 9 from his second stint on the injured list. The two-time NL Cy Young Award winner showed his form Saturday by striking out a career-high 15 batters in the series. The Giants beat the Colorado Rockies 4-1 at Oracle Park.
Snell was asked after the game about Hearing his name in trade rumorsand gave an objective answer.
“We just have to win,” Snell said of the rumors. “We won, I’m not going anywhere. At least I think I am. I don’t really know, I’ve seen some crazy things happen.”
As Heyman notes, the Giants are unlikely to trade Snell to San Diego, a division rival that is four games ahead of San Francisco for the second of the NL’s three wild-card spots.
If the Padres do come up with a compelling offer, though, should president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi and company consider it?
