Report: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Breaks Cartoon Movie Records

A new report has been released from Collider Highlights lists AMC TheatresAnd reveals that Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse will be two hours and 19 minutes long, making it the longest animated film from a major Hollywood studio ever.

Long-form live-action superhero movies may be the norm, but the same is not true of animation, especially those made in Hollywood. In 2018, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse ran just under two hours with 117 minutes. But Across the Spider-Verse is almost half an hour longer, though it’s still shorter than some non-Hollywood animated films, like Hideaki Ano’s two-hour Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0 Thrice Upon a Time and 35 minutes.

Regardless of its duration, the next Spider-Verse movie will premiere on June 2, 2023 to much fanfare. A 14-minute long clip of the film was revealed at CinemaCon this year, featuring Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy and Miles’ parents.

For those of you who haven’t seen the first movie, it was a huge hit and we gave it our IGN review of the movie Into the Spider-Verse rated 9/10 and we said“Miles’ journey from ordinary teenager to city-saver superhero is one of the best Spider-Man movie stories ever. The addition of characters from other multiverses doesn’t overshadow Miles’ story, though the Kingpin doesn’t get enough time that he does.” “By making the bold decision to depart from the Pixar graphics style we’re used to from today’s mainstream cartoons, Into the Spider-Verse delivers a dynamic visual experience like nothing we’ve seen before.”
