Report: 49ers reunite with veteran safety on practice squad move originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

49ers reunite with familiar face, signing veteran safety Tashaun Gipson to his practice squad, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported Tuesday, citing a source.

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Gipson to a one-year deal for the 2024 season but waived him on Monday, prompting the 49ers to make a quick move for the 34-year-old.

Gibson has not appeared in any games this season due to a six game suspension received for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substances policy.

The 49ers have not officially announced the signing of Gipson, but they did release Kicker. Anders Carlson from their practice squad on Tuesday, so they have an opening. San Francisco also waived the linebacker Jalen Graham from the active list.

Gibson joined the 49ers in 2022 and was then added to the practice squad before being promoted to their active roster shortly after. He then re-signed for the 2023 season and recorded 60 total tackles (three for loss), one sack, one interception and three passes defensed in 16 games.
