Rep. Katie Hill to fight revenge porn when leaving Congress

Rep. Announced on the weekend. Katie Hill, a freshman from California, announced that she will be leaving the congress by the end of the week after nude photos of herself have been published online without her permission. Hill has admitted having a consensual relationship with a campaign leader. In a letter announcing her resignation on Sunday, she said she will focus on fighting "revenge porn" after leaving Congress.

"Those of you who know me personally know that I am a hunter," wrote Hill. "Now I am going to fight to defeat this kind of exploitation that so many women are victims of and so that countless women and girls are not allowed to run to the office or come to the public light."

Earlier last week Politics reported that the House Ethics Committee has launched an investigation into Hill about allegations of inappropriate sexual relationships. That investigation will end as soon as Hill formally leaves his office, but those nude images, originally published by the right-hand outlet Red state and the Daily mail, will follow her on the internet for much longer.

After the accusations first arose, Hill issued a statement in which she blamed her "abusive husband" for whom she was in the middle of divorce for the controversy. The allegations include a consensual three-person sexual relationship with a female campaign leader and her estranged husband and one with her male legislative director, Graham Kelly. There is no evidence that proves any impropriety with Kelly.

"During the last tumultuous years of my violent marriage, I became involved in a relationship with someone in my campaign," Hill said last week. “I know that even a consensual relationship with a subordinate is inappropriate, but I still allowed it despite my better judgment. My apologies for that. I wish for nothing but the best for her and hope that everyone respects her privacy in this difficult time. "

In her letter of resignation, Hill wrote that she would pursue all "available legal options" for the unconscious distribution of her nude images. Hill has yet to announce what action she intends to take to combat the use of revenge porn, and her staff have not immediately responded to a request for comment from The edge with regard to any future plans.
