Many Americans are experiencing problems with a rent payment app on the day most landlords get paid

RentCafe, a platform that allows people to pay their landlords, does not work throughout the United States.

Thousands of Americans have been prevented from paying rent on the first of the month due to the outage affecting the app and website.

Users in California, New York, Texas and Colorado have reported problems, along with other states around the country.

While the exact number of affected tenants is unknown, RentCafe reported that it receives more than 80 million visits a year.

Tenants flocked to Reddit on Tuesday to share news about the issue and see if others are experiencing the same issues.

The initial post, shared around 2:45 pm ET, reads: ‘Is it down for anyone else or just me?’ I know a lot of apartment buildings use it in Kalamazoo.

Since then, the thread has been populated with comments from residents of Georgia, Arizona, Ohio and other states, where residents are also unable to pay their rent.

“In Texas, I’ve been trying to pay my first month’s rent since this morning, but the app and site still aren’t working,” one Redditor shared.

‘Good luck to everyone who is going through the same thing all day, error code 500 id similar to the Rentcafe servers telling us ‘it’s not you, it’s me’. As to what is wrong with the server on your end and how long it will take is another topic.

Landlords told some tenants that their payments are not considered late until October 5, so they still have time to pay even though the platform is unavailable.

However, one user shared that he spoke to his apartment manager and was told that RentCafe “should be fixed tomorrow.”

The platform allows users to set up one-time rental payments, which also allows for automatic payments.
