Relationtrip opens at SXSW to rave reviews as the must-see movie of the year!
The SWSW festival is in full swing but so far “The Relationtrip,” an indie romance that has stood out from the crowd as a weird and wonderful film that has stirred tongues, opens Saturday, March 11th in Austin, Texas.
Twisted: The Movie stars Renee Phyllis Smith and Matt Bush
Directed by Renee Felice-Smith and Sy Gabriel, the film revolves around two loners, Beck (Renee Felice-Smith) and Liam (Matt Bosch) who are battling the desire to settle down and find love who are battling the future of adulthood.
After bonding over a mutual lack of interest in relationships, they decide to go on a “friend” trip together. That’s when things get weird.

Aside from Chris and I just realizing a childhood dream of making a movie with a doll, the idea of a chibi character was specifically conceived as a physicalization of that wacky voice all over our heads telling us we’re not good enough. That we’re too fat, too weird, and not worthy of being loved. That voice that creeps back in when insecurity rears its ugly head.”

The film is Smith and Gabriel’s directorial debut, and they wrote, produced, and directed the film together. Gabriel composed the original score and in a sweet way they are both married and have known each other since sixth grade. The film is a strong and successful directorial debut for the duo.
