Refugees recount living hell of detention centres in Libya

The NGO Doctors Without Borders calls for the creation of humanitarian corridors for asylum seekers detained in Libya, who are often tortured and ill-treated in Libyan detention centers. Now safe in Niger, two former prisoners spoke to our correspondents about their harrowing ordeal. They were able to leave Libya thanks to the Emergency Transfer Mechanism, a program set up by the UNHCR to evacuate migrants to Niger. Since 2018, nearly 4,000 people have been evacuated from Libya through this mechanism.
