Wycombe’s David Wheeler received one of the fastest red cards in history when he was sent off in the 4-2 defeat to Barnsley – after just ten seconds!

Wheeler had just come off the bench for the League One match at Adams Park when he lashed out at Corey O’Keefe near the touchline with his first challenge.

O’Keefe went down holding his ankle and referee Dean Whitestone ran over to show Wheeler a straight red.

Wheeler had not even touched the ball during his brief stay on the field and, although he seemed stunned by the decision, he got no sympathy from his coach Matt Bloomfield.

“His reaction was not right,” the Wycombe boss said. “He was expelled and rightly so, so he didn’t complain about that.”

Bloomfield, however, accused O’Keefe of provoking his blushing player, saying: “Dave is out of bounds to let the ball go over his head because he is offside, and a left elbow hits his jaw”.

“I have seen the provocation and his reaction is not correct.”

If Wheeler’s ejection after ten seconds is upheld, it would earn him a place in the record books.
