- Ezra Mam faces uncertain future as a player
NRL star Reece Walsh wants the Brisbane Broncos to give Ezra Mam a second chance and not tear up the troubled player’s $4 million contract following an off-field incident.
Mam is currently awaiting the results of a secondary drug test after she allegedly tested positive in a roadside drug test following a head-on car accident.
Police will allege the 21-year-old was also driving the vehicle without a licence.
Queensland Police and the NRL Integrity Unit are investigating the incident, with the star five-eighths contract with the Broncos in jeopardy.
Mom recently entered a rehab facility and Walsh believes her friend deserves a lifeline.
“I feel for Ezra; he’s an incredible person to begin with,” Walsh told the Courier mail.
“He is going through a difficult time at the moment and everyone at this club feels for him.
‘They know who Ezra is and how loving he is. We have his back and it’s important that we are there for him and support him.

Mum allegedly tested positive in a roadside drug test on October 18 in Brisbane following the car crash.
‘Ezra is an incredible person and anyone who has had a genuine conversation with him or met him will understand that.
‘In this case, he has made a bad decision, but that does not define who he is as a person nor does it define his future. I know you will learn from it.
“He will take the necessary steps to get back on the right path.”
Mam’s management issued a statement last week saying the star is seeking “immediate professional treatment” at a rehabilitation center.
If Mam does not leave Red Hill, the Broncos face the possibility of him being suspended by the NRL for the start of the 2025 season.

Coach Michael Maguire is convinced that responsibility is key for Mam.
‘People will make mistakes, but they must also acknowledge them. “That’s the most important thing, if you own where you are,” he said.
‘Your actions in the future are very important. I know you are getting help right now about where you are. ‘When I get over it, I’ll have some time with him.
“It has to go through a process with the police, the game and the (Broncos) themselves…wherever it goes, we’ll move forward with what we have.”
