A Hampshire woman claims her teenage daughter was “scarred for life” after spilling cut-price nail glue purchased from online store Shein on her legs.
Rebecca Clarke, 47, was horrified when she heard her daughter Jasmine ‘screaming in pain’ as she applied a set of false nails.
The manager said she had purchased a set of stick-on acrylic nails and quick-drying nail glue from Shein for her 13-year-old daughter to use.
But after gluing on a couple of her nails, Jasmine allegedly dropped the glue bottle, spilling some of the contents onto her tights, which burned the fabric and almost immediately caused blisters to form on her skin.
Ms Clarke took her daughter to A&E, where doctors were forced to drain the blisters, one of which became infected.
He said this caused burn-like marks to appear that were “very dark and deep” and would likely take “months to heal.” The teenager has to return to the hospital to have a regular bandage applied.
Ms Clarke added that doctors have told the family there is a possibility Jasmine will be “scarred for life”.
“She’s a 13-year-old girl and she’ll want to wear shorts next year, but she’ll have bad scars,” Mrs Clarke said.
The blisters formed “within minutes” of the glue hitting the teens’ tights and then turned into “deep, dark” patches.
Jasmine will have to return to hospital to have her wounds re-bandaged and doctors have warned she may be left with permanent scars, her mother says.
‘The doctors were really shocked. They said nail glue shouldn’t burn. No doctor could understand how she ended up with such severe burns from a small bottle of nail glue.
‘It was horrible to see my daughter suffer and know she could have scars. “I was so confused how nail glue could do this.”
The teenager said her complaints to Shein were ignored, although she received a refund totaling an “insulting” 94 pence.
‘This should be taken more seriously. “They were huge burns and two months later they are still going on,” Jasmine said.
“I would like an apology from Shein and some kind of acknowledgment that they are going to do something about this.”
Last month, a woman in Somerset was horrified to discover a dead cockroach in her Shein delivery.
Amy Jowett had ordered a pair of joggers online, but when she opened the package, the dead bug fell out.
Jasmine’s mother Rebecca said it was “horrible” to see her daughter in extreme pain.
she told him bbc that she thought: ‘What’s going on here? I didn’t order any mistakes.’ Shein said he contacted Jowett to resolve the issue.
Chinese fast fashion giant Shein has enjoyed rapid expansion since 2020, popular for its incredibly affordable prices.

More than 6,000 new products are added to their website every day, typically costing less than £10 each, with some pieces even advertised for as little as £1.
However, the brand has come under fire after several investigations found evidence of exploited workers within its supply chain.
Last month, Channel 4 documentary Untold: Inside the Shein Machine secretly filmed inside two Shein suppliers and found workers allegedly getting paid. as little as 2p per item.
Employees were required to complete an average of at least 500 a day before they were guaranteed the payments they were owed at the end of the month, it was claimed.
Shein, however, said he has a “zero tolerance policy toward forced labor.”
