Caterina Mete has opened up about suffering a devastating miscarriage during her IVF treatment and was looking forward to welcoming her “miraculous” twin daughters.
The Red Wiggle, 43, announced in February that she was expecting identical twin girls after undergoing IVF with an anonymous sperm donor.
But Caterina’s journey to IVF wasn’t easy, as she detailed how “expensive” the process was and revealed she also suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage.
Caterina froze her eggs when she was 30 and then created two embryos with her chosen sperm donor, but suffered a devastating miscarriage in the first embryo transfer.

Caterina underwent a second embryo transfer and received the happy news that she was pregnant with twins and later found out she was expecting girls.
She described her pregnancy as a “miracle” and was looking forward to welcoming her two daughters in July, admitting she is very excited to embrace single motherhood.
She gushed: “I’m so excited about motherhood and the journey that comes with it, I feel so lucky to have twice the love, twice the smiles and two little girls to share life with.”

The TV star said she knows she will have her “hands full,” but that her family, friends and colleagues have been very supportive throughout her pregnancy.
Her comments come just weeks after she went on maternity leave from children’s group The Wiggles as she counts down the days until she welcomes her twins.
Last month, Caterina took to Instagram to share photos from a surprise baby shower her colleagues threw for her before she went on maternity leave.
In the snaps, Caterina cradled her burgeoning baby bump in her Red Wiggle outfit as she flashed a big smile for the cameras.
She posed next to a pink sign that said “baby” and an assortment of pink snacks, including cupcakes, marshmallows and candy.
After suffering a miscarriage, Caterina described her pregnancy as a “miracle” and was looking forward to welcoming her twin daughters in July.
The delicious food was decorated with paper signs with children’s themes, such as pacifiers, bottles, onesies and diapers.
Caterina also shared a photo with fellow Wiggles members Tsehay Hawkins, John Pearce and long-time member Anthony Field, as well as members of the production team.
In an accompanying caption, Caterina gushed about the special farewell while praising all of her colleagues.
She wrote: “Thank you so much to my Wiggly family for such a lovely send-off today.

Caterina was first a regular dancer for The Wiggles, performing on and recording with them, before officially becoming Red Wiggle in 2022.
