Colorado's Cal Quantrill appeared to say something rather unpleasant to Boston's Reese McGuire

The Red Sox and Rockies nearly came to blows in Denver on Wednesday after a Boston player’s 2020 indecent exposure arrest was referenced on the field during Colorado’s 20-7 blowout win.

Things heated up in the fourth when Boston’s Reese McGuire flew out to end the top of the inning.

As McGuire ran down the first-base line, Colorado starter Cal Quantrill raised his fist, prompting a reaction from McGuire. They had to be separated as the two bench and bullpen teams ran onto the field, but the situation was calmed down without any ejections.

A video later surfaced online of Quantrill mocking McGuire by apparently yelling: “You jerked off in a fucking parking lot, you idiot.”

As a member of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2020, McGuire was arrested for indecent exposure during spring training after he was allegedly caught masturbating in his car while it was parked in a Dollar Tree parking lot in Florida. He eventually pleaded guilty to one count of disorderly conduct and paid a $500 fine.

Coincidentally, Quantrill is the son of former New York Yankees reliever Paul Quantrill, who was involved in a fight with the Red Sox exactly 20 years ago Wednesday. That fight is best known for the hit Boston catcher Jason Varitek delivered to New York’s Alex Rodriguez during a confrontation at home plate.

On Wednesday things calmed down without incident or anyone being expelled.

Brenton Doyle hit his first career grand slam, Ezequiel Tovar and Jacob Stallings homered and had three hits apiece, and Colorado defeated Boston by 13 runs.

Ryan McMahon also drove in runs, Brendan Rodgers had four hits and Kris Bryant and Michael Toglia each had three hits for Colorado, which tied the franchise high in runs, and its 21 hits were a season high.

Jarren Duran homered, tripled and singled, Rafael Devers had three hits, Ceddanne Rafaela had two hits and infielder Dominic Smith pitched a clean eighth inning for the Red Sox.

Tovar extended his hitting streak to 11 games with his 17th homer leading off the bottom of the first inning off right-hander Nick Pivetta. Colorado added two more runs in the inning on Rodgers’ double to left-center field.

Boston got a run back in the second when McGuire reached on a fielding error and Devers scored, but the Rockies extended the lead to 5-1 with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Stallings’ three-run homer in the third inning, his fifth of the season, made it 8-1.

Pivetta (4-7) allowed 10 hits and eight runs (seven earned) in 2 2/3 innings.

The Rockies opened the scoring in the fourth inning on McMahon’s two-run homer, his 15th, and Toglia’s two-run double.

Duran hit a solo homer in the fifth inning, his 13th of the season. Boston had two runners on base in the sixth before Quantrill got Romy Gonzalez to ground into an inning-ending double play.

Quantrill (7-7) allowed three runs and six hits in six innings.

Doyle capped a six-run sixth inning with his grand slam, his 17th homer of the season and 10th this month. Colorado has hit four grand slams this season.

McGuire’s arrest in 2020 briefly appeared to put his once-promising career in jeopardy.

A witness called police in Dunedin, Florida, on Friday to report that the 24-year-old was “sitting and masturbating in a white Mercedes SUV in the parking lot,” according to an incident report provided to the Daily Mail. The team trains in Dunedin.

McGuire was charged with one misdemeanor count of exposure of sexual organs.

“The vehicle had perfectly clear tinted windows and was occupied by a tall white male subject,” the officer’s report read. “As I approached the vehicle… I could clearly see that the subject was naked from the waist down.

‘The bottom of the subject’s shirt barely covered his genitals and his sweatpants were down to his ankles. The subject, later identified by his Washington driver’s license as Reese Jackson McGuire, saw the sheriff’s deputies approach his vehicle and hurriedly tried to pull up his pants.’

McGuire immediately apologized and did not attempt to deny anything, police said.

“Reese was ordered to clean up and then exit the vehicle,” the report continued.

‘As Reese exited the driver’s side door, she repeatedly said, “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, this is really embarrassing.”

‘I asked Reese why he had his pants down and he replied, “I really shouldn’t have done that.”

Police also asked McGuire how he came to park his car at that particular shopping center.

McGuire, who said he is nearby, did not have a clear answer.

“After lunch, Reese stated that he went to the parking lot and began to ‘hang out,'” the report states. “I asked Reese why he went to that particular parking lot. Reese stated that he didn’t know, that it just seemed like a nice location. I pointed out the high pedestrian and vehicle traffic in and around the entire parking lot and Reese acknowledged it.”

Police discovered the pornographic video when McGuire unlocked his phone to give officers the address where he was staying during spring training.
