  • The Mexican managed only four podiums all season during a miserable campaign.
  • New Zealand-born Liam Lawson expected to replace him at Red Bull

Red Bull is expected to confirm Sergio Perez’s departure before Christmas, according to a report.

The six-time winner of the race, who endured a miserable 2024 campaign, has been discussing his possible future role, with the possibility of an ambassadorship and severing ties entirely, the report claims.

Perez signed a two-year extension with the Austrian manufacturer in May this year, but has since finished eighth in the drivers’ championship, 285 points behind teammate and champion Max Verstappen.

According to ESPNThe Mexican is likely to leave the constructor and be replaced by Liam Lawson, who impressed in the second half of the season after replacing Daniel Ricciardo at Red Bull’s sister team Visa RB.

Ahead of the season-ending Grand Abu Dhabi, Lawson, 22, said: “I think next week would be the time I would hope to have some information.”

‘What I’m focused on is taking a seat. This weekend (Abu Dhabi) is my last chance to show that and why I feel I should be here.

“I feel like I’ve made the most of every opportunity, but I definitely didn’t execute everything perfectly, and there are things I’ll learn as I reflect on these races.”

‘I would say I definitely tried and gave my best at every opportunity. Every decision, whatever I did at the time, seemed like the best thing I could do, but obviously you never have a perfect race.”

Meanwhile, Perez will almost certainly be left without a seat to compete in Formula One in 2025. Cutting ties with Red Bull completely would free him up to compete in other categories next season.

Incoming General Motors team Cadillac, which has an agreement in principle to join the grid in 2026 as an 11th team, could present an immediate return route for the Mexican driver.
