On Monday, LVMH billionaire Bernard Arnault and his heirs attended Donald Trump’s inauguration in Washington, DC, but there was reportedly a very specific reason why he was there.

According to The New York PostArnault, whose company owns a multitude of luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Givenchy and Fendi, was there in an effort to support the new president in hopes of “avoiding tariffs on his luxury brands.”

Since Monday’s crackdown, Trump has warned global business leaders that they should produce their products in the United States because they could avoid tariffs and benefit from paying low tax rates, according to Reuters.

The 78-year-old issued the caution via a video conference at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday, explaining that there would be new US tariffs of “different amounts” for all countries.

“My message to every company in the world is very simple: Come make your product in America and we will give you one of the lowest taxes of any nation on earth,” Trump said, according to the outlet.

Arnault, the richest man in France and the fifth richest in the world, attended Trump’s inauguration with his son, Alexandre, and daughter Delphine.

Alexandre is the deputy CEO of Moët Hennessy, while Delphin is the CEO of Dior – both of which are owned by LVMH.

“He’s someone Trump really looks up to and wants to make happy,” a source told the New York Post of Arnault.

He and his children sat two rows behind former President Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary Clinton.

In 2024, the LVMH giant saw their first quarterly sales decline since the 2020 Covid Pandemic.

Sales at LVMH’s Fashion and Leather Goods division fell by five percent in revenue.

A slowdown in China – the world’s second-largest economy and a crucial market for luxury goods – has boosted demand for expensive handbags, watches and clothing.

When Trump was in office during his first term, he and his daughter, Ivanka, visited the Arnault leather factory in Texas, which spanned more than 100,000 square feet.

The factory, where they make some of their popular Louis Vuitton handbags, was newly opened and intended to employ 500 people.

According to the post, Jared Kushner has a friendship with Alexandre and his brother Frédéric, both of whom he has since met Ivanka.

Since announcing his re-election campaign, Alexandre has even supported President Trump at several rallies and meetings.

The source also claimed to the post that one of the reasons Trump appointed Kushner as ambassador to France was to “strengthen ties with the Arnaults.”

DailyMail.com previously reported that Arnault and his children have a “success style” relationship, nodding to the famous show about fictional patriarch Logan Roy, who tries to decide which of his children will inherit his media company, Waystar Royco.

The family would have lunch together once a month, something Arnault reportedly uses as an opportunity to ask each child for advice about his business.

Their answers during the grueling 90 minutes—where Arnault effectively audits them to see who will take over the family’s billion-dollar business—will help decide who will replace him as head of LVMH and its Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior and Tiffany & Co brands.

Arnault is not only father to Delphine, Antoine, but also Frédéric, 29, and Jean, 27.
