“I feel like I have two parts of my personality, one takes over when that happens,” he said on CBS Sunday Mornings in 2022.

‘When I was hanging out with Letterman, in the past, I was nervous. But I remember being backstage before the curtain opened and thinking, ‘I’m going to die.’ I’m literally going to die here. The curtain will open and I’ll just be, I’ll just be a symphony of vomit, ‘something horrible is just going to happen!’ he remembered.

Reynolds explained, “But as soon as the curtain opens (and this happens a lot in my job, too), it’s like this little guy takes control. And he’s like, ‘I’ve got it.’ You’re great.” I feel like my heart rate goes down and my breathing calms down, and I just go out there and I’m a different person. And I leave that interview saying, “God, I’d love to be that guy.”

The Deadpool star first shared his battle with anxiety in May 2021 during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

‘Part of this is that I have three daughters at home and part of my job as a parent is to model behaviors and model what it is to be sad and model what it is to be anxious or angry. That there is room for all these things,” he said of his mental health battle.

Reynolds continued: “The house I grew up in wasn’t really a model for me. And that doesn’t mean my parents were negligent, but they come from a different generation.’

Reynolds also stated that he wanted to “destigmatize things and create a conversation about (mental health).”

“I know that when I felt absolutely rock bottom, it was usually because I felt alone in something I was feeling,” he recalled. “So I think when people talk about it, I don’t necessarily stop and lament, but I think it’s important to talk about it.” And when you talk about it, you kind of liberate other people.”
