In an interview with LIKE, asked if it is true that he could have signed for Barca, Asensio said: ‘Yes, I could have, but also at other clubs.

‘There are always great clubs that are interested and ask about your situation. When I signed up for Madrid it all went very fast, the treatment was spectacular and they showed incredible interest.

The 24-year-old also confirmed that Madrid’s interest around him was prompted by a tip from tennis icon Rafael Nadal, who is also a strong supporter of the club.

Asensio has played in all of Madrid’s last four games and is likely to play a role in Saturday’s game with arch-rival Barcelona.
