Elche 0-3 Real Madrid: Karim Benzema puts the icing on the cake of a memorable week as Ballon d’Or winner scores to give LaLiga holders six points ahead of Barcelona… despite scoring THREE goals rejected by the VAR
- Real Madrid solidified their standings at the top of LaLiga by beating Elche 3-0
- Los Blancos was disallowed three goals by VAR during the game for offside
- Karim Benzema, Federico Valverde and Marcos Asensio all scored in the match
- Madrid will now be six points ahead of Barcelona at the top of the LaLiga table
Federico Valverde, Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio gave Real Madrid a comfortable 3-0 win over Elche in LaLiga on Wednesday, and the front-runners also got three goals disallowed by VAR for offside in the run-up.
Real top the standings with 28 points, six ahead of second-placed Barcelona who have a game in hand and will host Villarreal on Thursday.
After a dominant 3-1 win over arch-rival Barcelona in the El Clasico on Sunday, coach Carlo Ancelotti decided not to let key players rest against scoreless Elche.

The champions dominated the game from the start and had several chances except for the three ruled out attempts, the first in the 6th minute when a Benzema attack was ruled out for offside against Vinicius Jr.
In form, Valverde gave Real the lead 11 minutes into the game with a brilliant technical attack from the edge of the area after an effort by Benzema bounced back through the defence.
Valverde now has six goals in 15 appearances for Real this season, as many as in his first 148 appearances for the club.
It was his third goal from distance this season and no player has scored more goals from outside the box this season than the Uruguayan in Europe’s five major leagues.

“I’m happy for the team and for the win, I enjoy the way we are playing now,” Valverde told DAZN.
“Ancelotti told me that if I didn’t score at least 10 goals this season, he would stop.
“So that’s my focus, I don’t want to be blamed for the coach retiring,” Valverde joked with a smile.
Alaba shot the ball into the net in the 25th minute after a nice combination with Benzema, who found him with a wall pass, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
The third goal that Real had ruled out came in the 60th minute when Benzema came in from a Dani Carvajal cross, but the full defender was inches ahead of the defense line in the build-up.
Elche had a golden opportunity to equalize in the 70th minute, but goalkeeper Andriy Lunin denied them with a great reflex save from a ball head from close range from Carlos Clerc.
Benzema eventually extended Real’s lead in the 75th minute after a neat play with Rodrygo, who assisted the Ballon D’Or winner with a clever back-heel pass.
Substitute Asensio added the third one minute before the end and shot a shot at close range from Rodrygo’s cross.
