A real estate agent who took up work as a traffic controller and described it as a “club job” has been praised for his honesty on social media.
The southeast Queensland man said he got a side job as a traffic controller after completing a two-day course earning $35 an hour.
He said he became a traffic controller three years ago because he needed to pay bills.
While the job is much easier to get than one that requires a college degree, some traffic controllers have responded to people who think they are making easy money.
But this Australian openly admitted that the work was not difficult for him.
One Australian worker said he got a side job as a traffic controller after completing a two-day course, earning $35 an hour.
According to the leading employment website Seek, traffic controllers earn between $65,000 and $85,000 a year.
“Anyone who wants a kind of impromptu job where you don’t have to do much, traffic control is definitely the way to go,” he said in a TikTok posted by Getahead, an app that connects job seekers with job opportunities in Australia.
“You literally get paid to be here and other than that, there are definitely worse gigs out there.”
The man said the “flexible” side job was an easy way to make extra money and “meet a lot of people,” many of whom often asked him for real estate advice.
He then explained that he was free to “accept or reject” the shifts he was offered the day before.
Then another worker interrupted the video and told him that “the supervisor was getting a little upset” because he had done the interview.
Social media users praised the worker and thanked him for speaking honestly about his salary and work experience.
“Finally a traffic controller who doesn’t make $10,000 a week,” one person wrote.
“Finally an honest traffic controller,” said another.
“He’s telling the truth,” said a third person.
“The first one who hasn’t exaggerated,” wrote another.
Earlier this year, a traffic controller sparked a furious debate after claiming he earned up to $200,000 a year.
Queensland woman Suzie Ross revealed her incredible income after a street interviewer asked her about her job.
“I do traffic control and I make between $140,000 and $200,000 a year,” he said.
An intense debate about women’s pay quickly emerged in the comments.
“I’ve owned a traffic control company in Sydney for 12 years and I’m sure it doesn’t make that much money,” said one user.
‘It is between 39,000 and 80,000, depending on experience. But traffic control is not a bed of roses. They have their favorites and you will be lucky to get between 5 and 40 hours (of work) a week,” another commented.
“I have been a traffic controller for 2 years while studying, even working 12-16 hours a day, the most I have earned is 88,000 in a financial year.”
According to leading employment website Seek, traffic controllers earn an average annual salary of between $65,000 and $85,000 per year.
