A rag tag Real Madrid composed of reserves and children transferred Real Betis with a dramatic late winner of Dani Ceballos, scoring against his old club.
Ceballos was booed by supporters of Betis when he appeared as a late replacement. He left them to join Madrid at the beginning of last season.
He did not have the good grace to celebrate when he scored, but that will be of little comfort to home fans who saw his late free-kick win 2-1 for Real Madrid.
Dani Ceballos grabbed a dramatic late winner to help Real Madrid win at Real Betis
The coach Santiago Solari made use of a number of young players when his team narrowly won
REAL PAYMENT: Pau López, Barragán, Mandi, Bartra, Francis, William Carvalho, Guardado, Canales, Lo Celso, Joaquín, Sanabria
SUBS NOT USED: Robles, Garcia, Feddal, Leon
REAL MADRID: Navas, Carvajal, Varane, Nacho, Ramos, Reguilón, Modric, Casemiro, Valverde, Vinicius, Benzema.
SUBS NOT USED: Isco, Casillas, Vieira, Odriozola
Isco was again put down by coach Santiago Solari from Madrid. Do not pay attention to the conversation that he might find a way out of the club at the end of the season, but he should definitely be close to a move in the current transfer window.
He was excluded despite the many injuries of Madrid.
He was an unused replacement with the former young Brahim Diaz from Manchester City, who came before him as a late change.
Luka Modric set Real Madrid at 13 minutes and as almost always with Modric it was a shot from outside the area.
Dani Carvajal tried his luck from a distance and when it was blocked Modric hammered the rebound.

Teen Brazilian Vinicius Jr got another start for the Spanish giants
Modric came close with another long-distance effort when Madrid lost the first half and justified Solari's new team choice.
With Gareth Bale, Marco Asensio, Toni Kroos and Thibaut Courtois, injured Solari both Marcelo and Isco fell.
He played Sergio Reguilon and Carvajal as wing-backs with Nacho, Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane in a back-three.
A nasty injury to Karim Benzema's little finger led to his replacement in peace
Sergio Canales clearly broke to equalize against his former club after a VAR review
Vinicius Jnr started at the front and Benzema did not appear before the second half after breaking his little finger.
The 18-year-old Brazilian was accompanied by the 21-year-old youth player Cristo Gonzalez in an attack.
Betis equalized 67 minutes when Giovani Lo Celso passed the ball to Sergio Canales and he went clear next to Keylor Navas.
The flag was on the other side, but VAR judged the decision and decided that Canales was right with Carvajal.
The goal stood and the player who came to Real Madrid in 2010 celebrated 5 million euros in 2010.
However, he was not the last player to score against his ex. With two more minutes to go, Ceballos found a hole in the Betis wall and defeated Pau Lopez with a low free kick from the edge of the area.
The victory means that Real Madrid is fourth in La Liga, 10 points behind Barcelona
