Australian professor Gemma Carey, a passionate advocate for disability rights, has died after a battle with the disease.

A high-profile Australian academic made disturbing claims about the Covid vaccine shortly before she died after a long battle with the disease.

Professor Gemma Carey, former director of the Center for Social Impact at the University of New South Wales, died on November 17.

Just two months earlier, she alleged in one of her last messages on X that the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine had almost killed her and taken years off her life.

“For more than three years I have been expected to defend, professionally and personally, a medical intervention that almost cost me my life and caused suffering beyond what I thought the human body was capable of enduring or experiencing,” wrote the Professor Carey.

“I have personally read 1,000 case reports of people injured or killed, and 40 published under TGA FOI which included child deaths from heart attacks,” he continued.

‘I think we’re past the point where we should be using these vaccines. They do not prevent infection, the damage is significant and we do not have concrete and reliable data on the frequency of this damage.

‘If we don’t stop now, in the future we will seriously regret the damage we allowed to happen from this point in the pandemic.

“So no, you will no longer see me publicly supporting what stole years of my life.”

Professor Carey’s family has not confirmed that the Covid vaccine had anything to do with her death, only telling Daily Mail Australia that she had died “after a long battle with the disease”.

On Tuesday, Queensland Senator Gerard Rennick offered his deepest condolences to Professor Carey’s family, saying she “suffered an injury from the Covid vaccine”.

“Gemma was a strong advocate for improving the vaccine injury plan,” Senator Rennick wrote.

Professor Carey suffered a serious injury while receiving the Covid vaccine in May 2021, after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine, which was the only one recommended at the time for people with Guillain-Barré syndrome.

Guillain-Barré syndrome is an autoimmune disease that can cause paralysis in extreme cases.

She told the Crikey newsletter that the blow left her suffering symptoms of a “functional stroke”.

His grueling rehabilitation process has involved relearning to read, write and speak while he was on leave from his job.

In January 2022, Professor Carey said she was desperately waiting for the Novavax protein-based vaccine to be approved to allow her to continue her course of Covid vaccines.

He alleged that the AstraZeneca vaccine had inflamed his Guillain-Barré syndrome.

“Every fine nerve fiber in my body became inflamed,” Professor Carey told the Sydney Morning Herald.

‘It was unbearable. I was in intensive care for quite a while.’

Earlier this month, medical researcher Joshua Leisk claimed in a now-deleted post on X that a doctor had raised concerns with Professor Carey that she might be suffering from long Covid.

“Completely desperate, a few hours later she asked for information about voluntary assisted dying,” Mr Leisk said.

He claimed Professor Carey was “terrified of contracting Covid”. His family tried to live a Covid-free lifestyle.

Leisk said he had previously battled a severe staph infection in his gastrointestinal tract that had turned into septicemia.

“During this period it became intensely ordeal and sleeping had become a challenge,” she wrote, and she sought information about voluntary assisted dying.

Voluntary assisted dying, also known as euthanasia, will be legal in Canberra in 2025. Daily Mail Australia does not suggest Professor Carey used voluntary assisted dying.

ACT Police confirmed the Canberra-based academic’s death is not being treated as suspicious.

She is survived by her husband Ben O’Mara and her two-year-old son Gideon.

The campaign for a fairer and broader vaccine injury compensation scheme made her the target of trolls.

That led her to leave the social media platform then known as Twitter and take professional leave from her job at UNSW.

“Due to the harassment that has crossed over from this platform into all aspects of my professional and personal life, I will be taking a leave of absence,” he tweeted on September 10.

Her last Instagram post, dated August 25, was a poetic cry of heartbreaking despair.

‘So this is it? Is this my story now?

‘The dying girl?

‘The dead girl?

‘The bitch

‘The survivor.

‘Will I never be anything else?

‘Will I never be myself again?’
