Channel Seven reporter Nathan Templeton had defended his colleagues after they were berated by fellow journalist and former Bachelorette Georgia Love for their grammar.

Templeton, 44, tragically died after suffering a medical episode while walking his dog near the Barwon River in Geelong on Monday night.

The journalist had worked for the Seven Network for more than 12 years, including as Sunrise’s Melbourne correspondent and in its sports department.

He sent a supportive email to Seven staff in October 2021, telling them they were all doing a great job after fellow reporter Love sent a message about grammatical errors.

‘Hello friends! Just a note on the use of the word ”surgery”; It doesn’t have to be plural. They do surgery on you, not “a surgery”, so you don’t have “surgeries”… That is to say. “All elective surgery is cancelled,” Love wrote in the email to the newsroom.

‘Alternatively, ”operations” or ”procedures” can be used. Eeeeeeeeeeveryone (sic) does it, it’s just one of those little bears that is incorrect but has crept into our language.’

Templeton, a senior reporter at the network, sent a follow-up email saying Love’s message was unnecessary.

‘Hello friends. Just a note to say that this note is neither helpful nor reasonable. Please continue your great work and forget about it. You are all doing a great job under difficult circumstances. Keep it up, we love you. Xxx’, he wrote.

Love’s email was also incorrect as “surgeries” can be used in particular contexts.

WhatsNew2Day Australia understands Templeton had been dealing with long-standing personal issues, including depression, and had been receiving support.

He had not been on the show since late 2022 and was working in a behind-the-scenes role last year.

His family said in a statement on Wednesday: “Our hearts are broken for an adoring father and wonderful friend, who will be missed by many.”

A few days earlier, Nathan had shared photos on Instagram of him and his two young children eating chocolate eggs on Easter morning.

“Favorite morning of the year,” she captioned the family photo.
