A frustrated employee shared the shocking text message he received from his boss.
The Sydney man informed his employer he would not be coming to work on Monday morning because he never received his most recent paycheck.
His boss retaliated by forcing the worker to take the entire week off without pay and, ominously, arranged to “discuss his employment” upon his return.
The man said he has also not been paid his pension since he started working and will take his employer to the Fair Work Ombudsman.
“We were supposed to get paid last Friday, the boss comes on Friday morning and tells us that all our salaries will be delayed this week and that we will get paid on Thursday of this week,” the worker explained in reddit.
A Sydney man informed his employer that he would not be coming to work and his boss retaliated by forcing the worker to take the entire week off without pay.
‘Our salaries have been constantly delayed this year due to the business’s cash flow issues. Back pay is just one of the many symptoms we have faced as a result of this.”
He said there was “no chance” of him going to work while he was owed his $2,200 salary, so he texted his boss to let him know he wouldn’t be coming.
In response, the worker received a message from his boss’s assistant.
‘You will have this week off and you will not be paid, you will return next Monday 06/05/2024. And that day he will discuss his employment situation,’ the text said.
He was also advised not to call his boss during the week-long absence.
“Anyway, I’ve already been looking for other jobs, and the big problem is that the boss is screwed without me.” “It’s a small company (three employees in the office) and I trust myself with absolutely everything,” the employee said.
‘I’m mainly a technician, but in the last two years I’ve had to do all sorts of things due to lack of competition with the rest of the staff and with the boss himself.’
He asked whether the move was legal and said he plans to raise the issue with the Fair Work Ombudsman as he has “a wealth of evidence of illegal or unethical business practices in which the boss is involved”.
The exchange has hundreds of people up in arms who criticized the boss for his “illegal” and “unprofessional” conduct.
‘Not paying you on time is already illegal. You are doing the right thing, but it won’t help you. Start looking for a new job,’ said one user.
“It’s nice of them to put it in writing,” another joked, and a third said, “You better get a lawyer, son.” “You shouldn’t need a particularly good one.”
‘Salaries, surpluses and licenses are a current liability. If his employer cannot pay them, then he is insolvent,” someone noted.
Some sided with the employer, saying the man should have given more advance notice that he would not be coming to work.
“Without your backstory, texting at 8:57 is bad form and if you had a similar story, I’d be on the company’s side,” they wrote.
