An RE teacher who married a former student faces an investigation by the education watchdog for alleging he had an “inappropriate relationship” at school.

Mr Dunsmuir, who is 49, was said to be visiting a pub with the schoolgirl, now known as Megan Reid, and other youngsters between March and August 2015.
He is also accused of taking the former schoolgirl to a colleague’s house and also giving her time in the company of his daughter.
The GTCS charges against Mr Dunsmuir read: ‘Between March 2015 and August 2015, while you were employed as a teacher by the North Ayrshire Council at School A, you formed an inappropriate relationship with a pupil in that you

It reads, “On two separate occasions between 1991 and 1993, in the knowledge that Child A was under the legal age limit to consent, you had intercourse with Child A without her consent.”
A GTCS hearing in 2018 also examined Mr Dunsmuir’s conduct, but was adjourned without a formal decision being made.
During his 2018 speech, the GTCS heard his behavior raise the alarm from an off-duty teacher who said his body language with the student “looked like a couple.”
Lynsey Muir, a PE teacher at Largs Academy since 2001, told the panel that she ran into Mr Dunsmuir and a group of students at the Lounge cafe in Largs.
She said, “Gavin came into the pub with student A and some other students. There were four or five in all.
‘I was with a group of trial teachers and I said I had to leave. I felt really uncomfortable. Their body language was close, they turned to each other
“My blood boiled from the Lounge. It was the summer of 2015, so she would have been at the end of the sixth year.
Mr Dunsmuir and his former apprentice Miss Reid formally married early this year, with photos of the two being shared on their social media accounts on their wedding day.
Miss Muir added: ‘As is the school, it is common for me to walk past RE. I often remember student A sitting alone with Gavin. Daily.’
Alan Leishman, a chemistry teacher at Largs Academy since 2002, also testified at the hearing.
Alan was best friends with Gavin during their time at school together and even attended his wedding.
He said, “I felt that student A and Gavin were developing a relationship. I saw them on exam day, she had been to his house but I didn’t ask why. I remember he said that the student went as a surprise for his daughter.

‘Pupil A got along well with his daughter. He said he was going to use her as a babysitter. I remember telling Gavin not to get too close.
“I asked Gavin if something was wrong and he said no.”
Mr Leishman also told the panel that Mr Dunsmuir’s wife had told him the teacher and student were in a relationship.
He added that he was “speechless” when Mr Dunsmuir arrived at his house with pupil A in his car.
He said, ‘A student never came to my house. Gavin said he would tell me later why she was in the car, and he said she was at his house as a surprise. I know his daughter liked student A.’
