A stunning and extremely rare blue lobster caught by fishmongers off the west coast of France has been saved from the pot and now needs a fitting nickname.
Fishmongers at Les Viviers de Noirmoutier, a seafood retailer in France, were surprised when they stumbled upon this unusual crustacean while fishing on the Île d’Yeu, a small commune off the west coast of France.
According to the retailer’s Facebook post, the odds of finding a blue lobster are approximately one in two million, making this a particularly unique find.
Instead of capitalizing on the rarity of their pet’s stunning sapphire color, the fishmongers decided to take a compassionate route.
In collaboration with the tourist office of the Isle of Yeu, they identified a suitable habitat for the release of the lobster where fishing is prohibited, ensuring that the lobster can live its life undisturbed.

Although these colorful lobsters attract attention, they all eventually turn red when subjected to the boiling pot, except for the extremely rare white and albino lobsters.
These animals are much rarer: researchers estimate that they appear only once in 100 million lobsters.
