Rams run over Cowboys; Chiefs dominate Colts

LOS ANGELES (AP) – CJ Anderson raced to 123 yards and two touchdowns, and Todd Gurley raced to 115 extra yards and another TD in the Los Angeles Rams' first playoff victory in 14 years, 30-22 over the Dallas Cowboys in the division around on Saturday night.

Gurley and Anderson punished the normally stiff run defense of the Cowboys and sent the second seeded Rams (14-3) to the NFC championship series for the first time in 17 years. Los Angeles ran a 273-meter franchise playoff on the ground – also the most ever allowed in the postseason by the Cowboys, who played in their NFL-record 63rd postseason-game.

The long-running Rams had only won one & # 39; postseason & # 39; competition since their last trip to the Super Bowl in February 2002, but 32-year-old coach Sean McVay added his first win for playoffs to his spectacular two-week franchise win .

Ezekiel Elliott hurried to a TD and Amari Cooper caught an early TD pass for the Cowboys (11-7), who still have not won a playoff game on the road in 26 years. After winning the NFC East and defeating Seattle last week, Dallas lost in the play-off round division for the sixth consecutive time and has since January 1993 made his first trip to the NFC championship match.

Next weekend, the Rams will face the winner of the other division playoff game in New Orleans between the top Saints and the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

The Rams are one victory away from another Super Bowl trip after McVay's high-flying, inventive crime had largely stuck to the ground, penalizing methodically for the normally robust Cowboys' running defenses with their unlikelyly receding tandem.

The Cowboys, who had largely eliminated the Seattle League-best rush-attack last week, had not allowed two 100-yard rushers in a playoff game after the NFL-AFL merger.

Dak Prescott passed 266 yards and raced to a TD with 2:11 to play, but the Cowboys could not climb out after falling into a 23-7-hole mid-way through the third quarter. Elliott won only 47 yards on 20 carriers, while Dallas lost for the second time in the last 10 games.

Jared Goff passed for 186 yards and spent much of the night, but the lanky quarterback scribbled 11 yards improbably for a first down with 1:51 to play, essentially packing his first playoff victory.

CHIEFS 31, COLTS 13

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Patrick Mahomes disbanded the Colts in his post-season debut, the Chiefs defense answered their chorus of critics with a solid performance and Kansas City rolled to a victory over Indianapolis in the divisional round to end 25 years of playoff frustration .

Mahomes threw 278 yards while racing for a touchdown, and Damien Williams ran through snow and muck for 129 yards and another score, as the Chiefs beat Indianapolis for the first time in five playoff meetings to their first AFC title game appearance since January To earn 1994.

The AFC West champions play the winner of Sunday's game between division rival Los Angeles Chargers and the New England Patriots next weekend for a spot in the Super Bowl in Atlanta.

Andrew Luck was held to pass 203 yards for the Colts (11-7), while Marlon Mack was a non-factor on the ground. He had rushed 46 yards before leaving late in the fourth quarter with a hip injury.

With stubborn snow changing Arrowhead Stadium in a winter wonderland, the Chiefs (13-4) walted over a Colts defense that the Texans shut out almost a week ago. Mahomes and Co. scored on their first three possessions, then again just before halftime, to take a 24-7 lead in the break.

If there was a question whether this would be the day of Kansas City, it was answered when Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri missed a field goal of 23 yards, trying the upright just before the break. It was the first time in 22 postseason attempts he had missed so close.
