Ralph Fiennes sparked a backlash from fans on social media after recreating a viral meme from 2024 on New Year’s Eve.
During a live interview on New Year’s Eve with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen, he elicited laughter when he suddenly began performing his “Recitations by Ralph.”
The 62-year-old actor recreated the “very understated, very conscious” monologue created by TikTok content creator Jools Lebron that took social media by storm over the past year.
“Well, look, this is how I do my makeup for work – very understated, very deliberate,” he began reciting during the annual New Year’s Eve countdown in New York City’s Times Square during the live taping of CNN’s countdown to 2025.
The Conclave star – who was barely recognizable as a rugged, battle-worn Odysseus in his riveting epic The Return – left the co-hosts choked up.
‘I don’t come to work with a green cut crease. I don’t look like a clown when I go to work,” he continued as the two co-hosts appeared to try not to burst out laughing.

‘I don’t do much. I am mindful at work,” he continued.
“Look what I look like,” Fiennes said as he ran his hands over his body, clad in winter clothing for the cold weather, causing the hosts to burst out laughing. ‘Very presentable.’
He continued, “The way I got to the interview is the way I’m going to get the job. A lot of you girls go to the interview looking like Marge Simpson, like Patty and Selma. Not subdued.
“But I’m very modest,” he recited with a straight face and a campy delivery.
“See my shirt,” he said, pulling his shirt down. ‘There’s only a little bit of chichi out. Not my chocho.’
He made Cooper laugh so hard that he had to cover his mouth with his hand and turn away from the camera.
“Keep in mind why they hired you,” he concluded at the end of the clip.
Then he playfully got in Cohen’s face and said, “Here’s a reality check, diva. What name do you want me to portray it as?’
