Emma Raducanu turned down the chance to play for Great Britain at this summer’s Olympics, but two-time gold medalist Andy Murray will compete in Paris.

Raducanu, 21, is ranked too low to qualify as he continues to recover from wrist and ankle surgery last year.

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) offered the 2021 US Open champion one of two spots reserved for former Grand Slam champions.

Raducanu missed the French Open, played on the same Roland Garros clay courts that will host Olympic tennis, to ensure he was fit for the British grass swing.

“I have had a number of conversations with Emma over the last few weeks and a slightly longer period where it is very clear how much it would mean to her to be part of a British team at an Olympic Games,” said Iain Bates, Olympic tennis team manager. From great britain. .

“I think she feels like this won’t be the right time for her this summer.

“Hopefully she has many Olympic Games ahead of her. I feel very comfortable with the decision she has made.”

Britain’s nominations were announced Sunday at the Queen’s Club.

The ITF will announce the full entry list for Paris 2024 on July 4.

Murray, who won gold at London 2012 and Rio 2016, has been awarded an ITF berth for what could be the final tournament of the 37-year-old’s career.

Murray said earlier this year that he didn’t expect to “play much beyond this summer.”

Cameron Norrie, Jack Draper and Dan Evans will join Murray in the men’s singles.

Katie Boulter is the only British woman to have qualified for the Games by ranking.

Murray and Dan Evans have also been nominated for men’s doubles.

Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski will play in men’s doubles by virtue of their world ranking.

Boulter and Heather Watson have been nominated for women’s doubles, as have Harriet Dart and Maia Lumsden.

The Olympic tennis tournament will be held from July 27 to August 4 at Roland Garros, which annually hosts the French Open.

Players will compete in five medal events: women’s singles, men’s singles, women’s doubles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles.
