Race Queen! Denmark’s Princess Mary shows off her sporting skills as she sprints past competitors in a royal one-mile race in Nyborg
Princess Mary of Denmark showed off her sporting talents as she took part in the Royal Run in Nyborg today alongside her husband, Crown Prince Frederik, and their four children.
The European royal, 51, who was born in Australia, stormed off to fellow participants in the one-mile race in central Denmark.
The mother-of-four arrived dressed for the occasion in a purple short-sleeved running top emblazoned with Royal Run 2023 branding.
The royal then paired it with a matching white cap and navy leggings.
As she stood at the start line, Mary was also pictured wearing a blue hoodie tied around her waist.

She finished her activewear with gray chunky-soled running sneakers for this morning’s event.
Mary kept her long brown hair out of her face by sweeping it into a high ponytail.
Keeping her makeup to a minimum, Mary wore black eyeliner and opted for a peach lipstick.
After the race, Mary received a bouquet of flowers and was photographed shaking hands with other participants.
The event was to be a once-in-a-lifetime sporting challenge in 2018 to celebrate Prince Frederick’s 50th birthday.
However, it has proven to be such a hit with the public that the Royal Run has now been held for five years and attracts over 70,000 runners.
As well as the one mile run Princess Mary took part in today, there are also 10k challenges and 5k races in five cities.
Mary met her husband, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, by chance at the Sydney pub, the Slip Inn, during the 2000 Olympics.

After they met, Fred – who was in Australia supporting Denmark’s Olympic sailing team – asked Mary for her phone number and a romance blossomed.
They maintained a long-distance relationship for a year, with Frederik making secret trips down before Mary moved to Denmark to study the Danish language at Studieskolen in Copenhagen in 2001.
In early 2003, Frederik’s mother, Queen Margrethe, publicly acknowledged the relationship, and the couple announced their engagement at Amalienborg Castle later that year, on October 8.
Frederik and Mary were married on May 14, 2004 at Copenhagen Cathedral, with the new Crown Princess opting for a beautiful dress by Danish designer Uffer Frank and a veil first used by Crown Princess Margaret of Sweden in 1905.
Their first child, Prince Christian Valdemar Henri John, was born on October 15, 2005; Princess Isabella Henrietta Ingrid Margrethe followed on April 21, 2007.
Almost four years later, Mary and Frederik welcomed twins, Princess Josephine Sophia Ivalo Mathilda and Prince Vincent Frederik Minik Alexander at the Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen on January 8, 2011.
