Manhattan Theater Club’s play Mary Jane follows a single mother of a young child with cerebral palsy.

The story revolves around her and her relationship with her unlikely support system of women, including the building’s superintendent, a Buddhist nun, and a Facebook friend, as they look out for each other during the struggles.

The work opened on April 23 and will continue until June 16.

“I’m less nervous now, but they’re still there,” she explained.

“I still get nervous every night,” she added. ‘And that’s good! We know there’s a certain amount of nerves that are good and propel you forward and just make the performance that much more vibrant, so it’s better to keep some of them.

‘I’m hugging my nerves! It’s just new, right? It’s like starting a new job: you’re always nervous the first day, no matter what it is, and then you realize it,” she continued. “I feel like I’m finding my feet.”
