Model and businesswoman Rachael Finch mourns the loss of her grandmother, who died on her 95th birthday on Sunday.

Former Miss Universe Australia, 32, remembered her Nana as a ‘beautiful soul’ in a heartbreaking tribute shared on Instagram Monday afternoon.

Rachael announced the sad news, revealing that her grandmother had told her she was “happy” on their last phone call, just hours before she died.

Rachael accompanied the tribute with a photo of her gently resting her head on her grandmother.

“Heaven has another angel” she started her tribute. “Nana turned 95 yesterday, and she left our world the same day.”

She continued, “I spoke to her on the phone in the afternoon after I was not allowed to see her face to face. She asked how the children were doing and then I asked how she felt. She said calmly, “I’m happy, Rachy.” That made me happy.

“Hard to swallow. But forever grateful to have had a beautiful soul in our lives that was extremely strong.

Nana used to sit in her chair and say things like ‘keep going’, ‘learn more’, ‘work hard’, ‘you can do it’. I will never forget those words and I will never forget your kind face. ‘

Based in Sydney, Rachael spent a lot of time in Queensland lately, and presumably because she wanted to be closer to her grandmother.

Born and raised in Townsville, Rachael was traveling with her husband, Michael Miziner, and their two children, daughter Violet, six, and son Dominic, three.

The brunette became famous for winning Miss Universe Australia in 2009. She now works as a certified health coach, personal trainer and fitness entrepreneur.
