Rabbitohs coach Demetriou leaves press conference as speculation swirls over his future

Under-fire South Sydney coach Jason Demetriou stormed out of a press conference on the eve of the match after 27 seconds.

Demetriou offered four brief answers to media questions about his future, before leaving on the eve of his team’s clash with Cronulla.

The coach is in a battle to keep his job after the Rabbitohs’ late-season capitulation last year and 1-4 start to this season.

NRL legends Mal Meninga and Wayne Bennett have been linked to the head coaching job at South Sydney, with Bennett defending his former student Demetriou earlier in the week.

“I have no idea what’s going on at Souths, so I don’t really want to make any comments about something I know nothing about,” he said.

“I’m here [coaching the Dolphins] Until the end of the season and I haven’t made any decisions about going anywhere or doing anything, so we’ll wait and see.

“Everyone has an opinion on it. My opinion is the one that matters, but I won’t share it with anyone, so keep guessing, guys. Don’t try to predict the future. That’s the only advice I give you.

“I’ll see what I want to do and what’s going on in my life. I could still be here next year. Who knows?”
