Quentin Tarantino has said that the actors in Marvel movies “are not movie stars” and lamented the fact that they are the only movies that seem to generate significant interest today.
Tarantino appeared on the 2 Bears 1 Cave podcast, hosted by Tom Segura, where he explained why there are no movie stars in Hollywood anymore.
“Part of the wonder of Hollywood is that you have all these actors who have become famous playing these characters, but they’re not movie stars,” Tarantino said.
Captain America is the star. Thor is the star. It is these franchise characters that become stars,” he added.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe of around 30 movies has grossed more than $25 billion worldwide and made its actors some of the most famous people on the planet.
But Tarantino evidently considers them a poor substitute for the matinee idols of yesteryear.
Quentin Tarantino appeared on a podcast hosted by Tom Segura and offered his thoughts on Marvel movies and the Marvelization of cinema.
Tarantino suggested that the stars who appear in Marvel movies are overshadowed by the characters they play, such as Captain America and Thor.
I don’t love them. I don’t hate them, but I don’t love them,’ Tarantino said of the Marvel movies, admitting that he’s not entirely opposed to their existence.
“My only ax to grind against them is that they’re the only things that seem to be done and they’re the only things that seem to generate any kind of excitement among a fan base or even for the studio that makes them,” Tarantino said. .
‘That is what [the studios] they’re excited. So it’s just the fact that they’re the complete representation of this era of movies right now and there’s really no room for anything else.
Tarantino expressed his frustration that Marvel movies dominate in Holly Wood, capturing the interests of fans and movie studios.
Tarantino explained during the podcast that while he resents superhero movies for getting all the attention, he was once a fan of the Marvel universe.
“I used to collect Marvel comics like crazy growing up,” he said.
He even acknowledged that if he were younger he would be more excited about them.
“There’s one aspect: if these movies came out when I was 20, I’d be totally happy, I’d absolutely love them,” he said, but added that “they wouldn’t be the only movies being made.” it would be those movies among other movies.’
“I’m almost 60, so no, I’m not that excited about them.”
