During his interview at the Cannes Film Festival with DeadlineQuentin Tarantino has revealed new details about his next movie, The Movie Critic, including who the film is about.
While there was previously speculation that he would focus on New Yorker critic Pauline Kael, Tarantino has actually denied it. The Oscar-winning director and author’s next project is about an alternative magazine critic who wrote in the 1970s. He did not reveal the man’s name, but stated that he was “very funny” and that he “wrote like he was fifty-five, but he was only in his early to mid-thirties”.
Tarantino has been candid about his desire to tell the story of this little-known writer, explaining to Deadline: “I think he was a very good critic. in Taxi Driver) if he were a film critic.
“I think he was a very good critic. He was very sarcastic.
Tarantino was similarly secretive about the magazine that published the writer’s work. To add to the mystery about the publishing company, he concocted a fictional title for the film: The Popstar Pages.
Regarding the production itself, Tarantino stated that the film entered “pre-production” in Los Angeles in June, and would need to cast a “new lead hero.” Many of the actors he works with, including Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio, are too old to play this particular part.
Tarantino admitted, “I haven’t decided yet, but it will be someone at the age of 35.”
The Movie Critic has been revealed for the first time as Tarantino’s next project will be in March. It is also expected to be his last film, as he previously said that he will only direct 1 films (Kill Bill 1 and 2 are considered one film), and thus this film will be his tenth.
