Police are investigating sexual assault allegations involving a Queensland politician following an incident outside a pub.

Daily Mail Australia understands the politician lodged a complaint after a night out in central Queensland on a Saturday night in April.

Police said: ‘The Queensland Police Service (QPS) is investigating an allegation of sexual assault related to an incident.

‘Investigations into this matter are ongoing.

“As is customary in these types of investigations, no further comment will be made at this time.”

Insiders say the alleged incident took place outside a pub in a coastal town.

It comes at a time of heightened community concern about violence against women, amid a series of alleged murders.

So far in 2024, 29 women have been murdered, that is, one every four days.

While many were victims of current and former partners, that number also includes the five women killed by knife-wielding Joel Cauchi, 40, while carrying out his stabbing at Westfield Bondi Junction on April 13.
