Queensland Driving License Test: Driving questions can be asked online to renew driving license

Date:

Why millions of Aussies may be forced to take a new test every time they want to renew their license

  • QLD drivers may need to complete the test
  • Test would be done when they renew the license
  • Last year, 299 people died on QLD roads

Drivers in Queensland may soon be required to take an online driving test when renewing their licence.

Transport and Major Roads Minister Mark Bailey has proposed a raft of changes to make roads safer following the deaths of 299 people last year.

One suggestion is to have those who renew their driver’s license take another online road test every five years.

The test would be similar to those applying for their learner license, and licensed drivers could keep trying until they pass.

“It’s really about education, it’s not about whether we take your driver’s license or not,” Mr Bailey told reporters.

Survey

Do you think that drivers should take a road test when they renew their driving licence?

“Looking at a five-year period, there are always many different changes that come into play.

“If you add that up over time, it can be very easy to lose track of the latest traffic rules.”

The state government is also considering enacting a law that would see those driving 40 km/h faster than the limit have their licenses suspended on the spot.

Drivers caught committing high-risk speeding offenses often have 21 days before the suspension takes effect.

“As far as I’m concerned, you (high-risk speeders) are as dangerous as a drunk driver,” Mr Bailey said.

“You must have your keys taken away immediately.”
