As part of their trip to the Southeast Asian country, the Dutch royals also met Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at the Istana presidential palace.

The Singapore FinTech Festival is the world’s largest of its kind. The annual events seek to recognize innovative FinTech solutions, financial institutions and technology companies.

The tech festival began today at the Singapore EXPO headquarters and will continue until Friday.

As part of her previous role at the UN as Special Advocate to the Secretary-General for Inclusive Finance for Development, Máxima previously discussed the importance of technological innovations in improving access to financial services at the annual technology festival.

He advocated for better access to checking or savings accounts, insurance, loans, pensions and digital payments, for the 1.7 billion adults around the world who lack access to these basic financial services.

It comes after the royal was spotted during a series of official engagements in her native Netherlands at the end of October.
