He could be seen barely containing his laughter as he shook Mr. de Sousa’s hand after giving a speech at the banquet.
‘Mr. President, Bem-vindo! Welcome!’ he said. ‘Seven years after our state visit to Portugal, the Queen and I can finally welcome you to the Netherlands.
‘We are delighted and honored to have you here with us. And no less than in December: it is not exactly the most pleasant month for a trip so far north…

The Queen looked soberly at King Willem-Alexander as she spoke to the press during her visit.
NL Times reported that the king described being “in complete shock” following the tragedy.
‘It’s beyond imagination. “You follow what’s happening minute by minute, but when you see the place, the impact of the explosion on those buildings, all those people there, I shudder to think about it,” he said.
The Dutch royal family also told the media: “Our thoughts are with those affected.”
Police and firefighters informed the couple before speaking to surviving residents and the victims’ loved ones.
Fundraising actions across the city in the hope of supporting the victims had already raised 340,000 euros as of Monday morning.
As of Monday morning, six people had been found dead following the explosion that left half the building collapsed.
The explosion in the block of flats left a trail of destruction after firefighters were called to the fire on Saturday at 6.15 a.m. local time (5.15 GMT).
Plumes of smoke could be seen from the three-story building in The Hague on Saturday morning as firefighters battled the blaze.
As of Sunday, 10 people had been rescued from the rubble, four of whom were taken to hospital while another was being treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to a shelter.
It is currently unknown how many remains remain among the buildings, although it is believed that up to 20 people were present at the time. Sniffer dogs are currently being used to search for the remaining residents.
It is unclear how the explosion occurred, however, Dutch police said a car sped away from the scene at the time of the explosion.
Elite search and rescue teams, specialized in searching for victims of natural disasters and earthquakes, have been sent to the site, and a large excavator has been installed at the site to help remove debris.
Dutch media also reported that the explosion destroyed five homes.
