King Frederick and Queen Mary formed a united front when they appeared on the balcony of Amalienborg Palace today for the monarch’s birthday.
The father of four is today celebrating his first birthday since ascending the throne and greeted a crowd of royal fans who had gathered outside the residence.
For the occasion, Mary opted for a bright pink long-sleeved dress, which matched perfectly with her mother-in-law’s fuchsia dress.
Mary’s dress featured a ruffled dropped hem and voluminous gathered sleeves. The royal styled her brunette hair in loose waves and wore an elegant gold bracelet.
Queen Mary and King Frederick have been plagued by rumors of marital strife since the king was photographed enjoying an evening in Madrid with Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova last year.

The publication of the photos caused Genoveva, 47, to issue a statement denying any type of romantic relationship between her and royalty and criticizing the “malicious” rumors.
Frederik and Mary were joined on the balcony by their four children, Crown Prince Christian, 18, Princess Elizabeth, 17, and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, 13.
Isabella cut a sophisticated figure in a blue wrap dress with a floral print and puffed sleeves.
Meanwhile, her younger sister Josephine looked elegant in a knee-length light blue and white floral dress with sheer sleeves.
The family of six was joined on the balcony by Queen Margaret, 84, who abdicated in January after a 52-year reign.

Earlier today, the Danish Royal House released a new portrait of King Frederick to mark the monarch’s 56th birthday.
Frederik opted to wear his military uniform for the new portrait, which was posted to Instagram this morning.

King Frederick looked dapper in a navy suit and red tie as he waved to the crowd from the balcony of Amalienborg Palace today.
The king’s black double-breasted jacket was adorned with his Air Force insignia and military citation bars.
In 1995, the Crown Prince began his service as a member of Denmark’s elite special operations forces, the Royal Frogmen Corps. He also completed training in both the army and air force in his youth.
Frederik posed against a dark gray background and also opted for a plain black tie and a crisp white shirt.
Later today, the royals will appear with Queen Mary and their children on the balcony of Amalienborg Palace.
