Queen Margrethe marks 83rd birthday by celebrating with her sons following removal of Joachim’s children’s titles.

Date:

Today, the Danish Royal Family put up a united front on the occasion of Queen Margrethe’s 83rd birthday.

Queen Margrethe – who underwent back surgery last month – was smiling this afternoon as she waved to crowds of public health aides from a balcony at Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen.

The mom of two cut a chic look in a matching powder blue midi skirt, turtleneck top and sweater.

The Danish queen — whose half-century reign made her the longest-serving monarch in Europe — swept her hair back into her trademark bun and donned a set of blue diamond earrings.

She added a pop of color to her outfit with some vibrant red nail polish but wore minimal makeup.

As she stepped off the balcony, Margaret was pictured without a walking stick – after she was previously seen with one at Denmark’s Fredensborg Castle on Wednesday.

The Queen is also joined by her son Frederick, the heir apparent, his wife Princess Mary and their four children – Prince Christian, 17, Princess Isabella, 15, and twins Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent, 12.

However, Prince Joachim and his children were also present – with the whole family appearing on the balcony later in the afternoon.

It’s been a tumultuous autumn for the Danish royal family after the king stripped their youngest son, Prince Joachim, of their four prince and princess titles — a shocking move he has spoken out against publicly.

She said the decision was aimed at allowing Nicolae, 23, Felix, 20 – born from Prince Joachim’s first marriage – Henrik, 13, and Athena, 10, to lead normal lives without royal obligations.

Instead of being Princes and Princesses, they are Countess and Countess and are referred to as Excellencies – a change that is now reflected on the family’s website.

At the time, Prince Joachim spoke out against his mother’s decision – claiming that his children had been “harmed” in the process.

Later this year, the 53-year-old prince, who is sixth in line to the Danish throne, will move to Washington, D.C., with his family to become defense industries attache at the Danish Embassy.

Last year, the sixth-in-line to the throne admitted that “communications were missing” within the royal family in the run-up to the shock announcement.

Joachim told local news outlet BT: “There’s a lot to work on. Communication was the thing that was missing. Now we’ve met and we’re on the right track.”

Soon after his children were stripped of his titles, Joachim claimed he was not notified until just five days before the news broke.

After the Queen’s announcement, Joachim spoke to Danish magazine Ekstra Bladet outside the Danish Embassy in Paris, where he lives with his French-born wife Princess Marie and two youngest children, and said his four children were “hurt” by their grandmother’s decision. .

I got five days’ notice to tell them. In May, she presented me with a plan that was, very much, when every kid turns 25, it will happen. Now I only have five days to tell them. Athena turns 11 in January.

Meanwhile, his ex-wife Alexandra said her two sons, Nikolai and Felix, had been left feeling “ostracized” by the institution and that the decision came like “a bolt of the blue”.

The royal family issued another statement, saying: ‘As the Queen said yesterday, the decision has been a long time coming.

“We understand there are many feelings at stake at the moment, but we hope the Queen’s wish to prove to the Royal Family will be respected in the future.”

In February, the royal palace announced that Queen Margaret would undergo major back surgery.

“During a long period, Her Majesty the Queen has been affected by problems with her back, and in recent times the situation has worsened,” the ad reads.

After the operation, the palace said the Queen needed a “longer rehabilitation process”.

The announcement came after Margrethe had to cancel a series of events – including an exhibition opening in Copenhagen.

The Danish constitution gives Margrethe, the Head of State of Denmark, no political power, and her duties are ceremonial.

She was proclaimed queen on January 15, 1972, the day after her father, King Frederick IX, died after a short illness.

After the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Margaret became the only living queen in the world.

She is also now the second longest reigning monarch in the world, second only to Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei, after celebrating 50 years on the throne.
