Queen Letizia and King Felipe of Spain put safety first in continuing their tour of their country today, with the royal couple wearing protective face masks.

The mother of two Letizia, 47, and her husband, 52, visited the medieval monastery of San Juan de la Peña in southwest Jaca.

The trip is part of a royal journey that takes the couple through several Spanish autonomous communities with the aim of supporting economic, social and cultural activities following the coronavirus outbreak.

Letizia looked sophisticated in stylish black culottes and a cream colored knit when she appeared next to her husband, who wore an equally charming blazer and trouser combination.

The royal lady looked relaxed in the historic setting, wearing her brown hair scraped back to a sleek curly ponytail and keeping her eye makeup minimal.

She completed her look with black espadrilles and accentuated her sleek frame with a narrow matching belt, fitted at the waist.

Letizia’s husband Felipe complemented her fashionable outfit with a light blue shirt, smart cream trousers and a pair of brown leather shoes.

Hidden in the cliffs, the San Juan de la Peña Monastery is ‘one of the jewels of the Middle Ages and one of the most important monuments in the area,’ according to a local tourist website.

Felipe and Letizia then went to downtown Jaca and visited the local cathedral during their trip.

The couple’s outing comes after they performed a solemn display this week to attend a funeral mass at La Almudena Cathedral in Madrid.

Letizia and Felipe joined their daughters, Princess Leonor, 14 and Princess Sofia, 12, paying tribute to the victims of COVID-19 during the service by wearing black.

Felipe joined the family in wearing face masks as the country slowly eased the exit rules following the coronavirus pandemic.

The family entered the church, watched by hundreds, where they stood at the front listening to the service that marked the tragic events.

Felipe and Letizia have attended a series of tourist and cultural activities to boost the country’s economy after their severe shutdown.
