Queen Letizia of Spain is renowned for her bold and immaculate fashion choices, not least of which are her sky-high heels.
However, earlier this year the 51-year-old monarch fractured a toe on her right foot and had to swap her trademark heels for comfortable footwear.
In May, Letizia debuted white sneakers for the first time at an official event.
And over the next few weeks, she continued to pair her new white sneakers with pantsuits in a range of colors.
But now, the Spanish monarch is opting for a new and elegant style: block-heeled sandals.
In July, Queen Letizia elevated a sequined Self-Portrait dress with £565 mid-heeled sandals by Aquazzura.
Queen Letizia is believed to have suffered from a Morton’s neuroma in her left foot since 2022.
This condition is characterized by a thickening of the tissue around the nerves between the third and fourth metatarsal bones.
It can cause severe stabbing pain, numbness and tingling.
She is also reported to have metatarsalgia (pain in the sole of the foot) in both feet, which also explains why she has been choosing comfortable shoes.
Her favourite pair of trainers appears to be the £140 Primus Lite Knit from British sustainable running shoe brand Vivobarefoot.
Made from recycled plastics and featuring woven details, these shoes aim to make the wearer feel “as barefoot as possible.”
Letizia was seen wearing these shoes with various pantsuits in May, June and July.
A recent fracture of the proximal phalanx of the third toe of her right foot has forced the 51-year-old monarch to change her characteristic heels for comfortable footwear.
As the Spanish queen recovers, her go-to footwear has shifted to comfortable summer sandals, all with block heels. In the July photo she appears wearing Mango’s Gaby sandals, which cost £45.99.

In July, Letizia showcased a variety of shoes from both haute couture and luxury designers, including Mango, Aquazzura and Dior.
Her silver faux leather Mango sandals, priced at £45.99, were a perfect choice.
The block heel and metallic shine paired beautifully with her BOSS slip dress and Barbara Goenaga diamond earrings.
A week earlier, the monarch chose the coveted Sundance mid-heel sandals by Aquazzura.
Made in Italy from light gold mirrored leather, the £565 design features a quilted effect 5cm heel and delicate straps.
These sandals were an ideal match for Letizia’s stunning Self-Portrait sequin dress.

She has presented a pair of Hugo Boss Melanie sandals in black and white, costing £239.
Letizia opted for Christian Dior Adiorable grosgrain heeled sandals with black fringe for £890.
It seems that Letizia is opting for shoes that are one size larger for greater comfort.
She also treated herself to two pairs of Hugo Boss sandals, which cost £239 each, and a Dior model for £890.
The latter’s black fringed grosgrain top features a deconstructed bow, embellished with a signature resin pearl.
With their ankle strap and 4cm heel, these shoes add a sophisticated touch to the French luxury fashion house’s royal beaded ensemble.
This choice marks a clear departure from Letizia’s previous high heels in versatile shades of black and beige, typically from extravagant brands such as Saint Laurent and Carolina Herrera.
