Queen Camilla is ill due to a chest infection and has withdrawn from her engagements this week, Buckingham Palace announced today.
The Duchess of Gloucester intervened on behalf of the 77-year-old to attend the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey this Thursday.
Camilla also walked out of a reception at Buckingham Palace for Olympic and Paralympic athletes hosted by her husband, King Charles III, that same night.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: “Her Majesty The Queen is currently ill due to a chest infection and has therefore been advised by her doctors to take a short period of rest.”
“It is with great regret that Her Majesty has had to withdraw from her engagements this week, but is very hopeful of recovering in time to attend this weekend’s commemorative events as normal.
