The 77-year-old King’s wife smiled broadly as she waved goodbye to her children, Tom Parker Bowles and Laura Lopez, along with several of her grandchildren, before climbing into a waiting car.

Tanned and dressed casually, she opted for jeans, shirt and jumper with a green padded jacket and loafers for his outing to Ballater, which is the nearest town to Balmoral Castle, where the King arrived today to begin his summer residence.

Photos of the happy family reunion emphasise Camilla’s close relationship with her two children from her first marriage to Andrew Parker Bowles and her grandchildren, who call her Gaga.

In 2022, she told the Mail how they kept her up to date with modern trends like Instagram and TikTok. She also chatted to them at House Party during lockdown.

Like Charles, Camilla loves the peace of Royal Deeside and looks forward to the summer holidays, spending hours outdoors walking her dogs and catching up on some of her favourite reading.

Earlier today, King Charles looked relaxed as he officially arrived at Balmoral Castle for his annual summer stay. His Majesty appeared to be enjoying the Highland air despite his cancer treatment.

Following in his late mother’s footsteps, Charles also met the Royal Regiment of Scotland’s mascot Shetland pony, Corporal Cruachan IV.

The animal was on its best behavior toward the 75-year-old monarch after previously trying to eat Queen Elizabeth’s bouquet of flowers, forcing her to warn him: “Go away!”

Her official arrival at the private royal estate came a fortnight later than usual, as some of the castle’s rooms have been opened to the public for the first time this year as a cash-generating exercise.

Tickets, which cost £100 each, were so popular that they sold out within hours.

During the small ceremony held outside the Castle Gates, the King, dressed in traditional tartan, inspected a Guard of Honour formed by the Balaklava Company, 5th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland, under the command of Major Neil Cargill.

The Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland and the Pipes and Drums of the Royal Corps of Signals performed.

Charles has been staying with Camilla at her home in Birkhall so far, but will be joined by family and friends at Balmoral in the coming weeks.

The Prince and Princess of Wales are expected to be with their three children, as is, potentially, the Duke of York, which could lead to awkward scenes given the latest salvo in the so-called ‘Royal Lodge siege’.

The King wants his brother Prince Andrew to leave the 30-room mansion in Windsor now that he is no longer a working royal, but he has steadfastly refused to move.

This week it emerged that Charles is cancelling arrangements to privately pay for his brother’s security detail from October, in another attempt to force Andrew to cut his staff.

He is keen to move into Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, the former five-bedroom home of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but Andrew feels this is too much of a “downgrade”.
