Qantas plane heading to Auckland from Sydney was forced to turn around mid-flight

A Qantas plane bound for Auckland had to return to Sydney after colliding with a bird in mid-flight.

Flight QF141, which took off around 7am, had to reverse course and return to Sydney, approximately 30 minutes after beginning the journey to New Zealand on Friday morning.

Data from a flight tracker shows the Boeing 737 traveled over the Tasman Sea before making a U-turn and returning to Sydney Airport.

Landed safely around 9 a.m.

No passengers or crew were injured and it is unknown if there was any damage to the aircraft.

“One of our Auckland-bound flights returned to Sydney this morning following a bird strike shortly after take-off,” a Qantas spokesperson said.

‘We will accommodate customers again as soon as possible.

“We appreciate our customers’ understanding and apologize for the inconvenience.”
