A protection officer who worked directly for Vladimir Putin has defected from Russia, calling the Kremlin tyrant a “war criminal”.
Gleb Karakulov, 35, is a captain in the Federal Guard Service, commonly known as the FGS or FSO, who escaped through Istanbul to safety.
He revealed that Putin is paranoid about his personal security and the attempts on his life and that he would rather stay “in a basement” than take trips as he used to do.
Karukalov added that the Russian tyrant is “terribly afraid” of Covid and is self-isolating for the fourth year.
However, the dictator appears to be in good health for a 70-year-old, testimony that probably contradicts repeated claims that he was ill although it is not clear that the captain had access to Putin’s health secrets.

Independent media in the file – which revealed his testimony – claim that Karakulov is the highest-ranking defector to date from Putin’s immediate security circle.
Karakolov — an engineer — at the Presidential Communications Directorate had access to Putin’s personal communications, according to Dussuyer.
He was reportedly responsible for previous leaks about Putin’s armored train. Putin is so concerned about Western eavesdropping that he takes a private box with him on his foreign trips to prevent his secret conversations from being leaked.
His guards — the FSB is also known as the Federal Protective Service and is headed by Putin’s faithful henchman Viktor Zolotov — “call him president, worship him in every way and speak of him only in those terms.”
His paranoia is shown by never using a mobile phone. “I mean, in all my years of service, I’ve never once seen him with a cell phone,” he said.
With Putin … he does not use the Internet or a mobile phone. He receives information only from his closest circle, which means he lives in an information vacuum.
This means that his knowledge of events is filtered through the secret services – and what he watches on state-controlled Russian television.

Vladimir Putin, pictured in April 2022, looks frail and bloated as he clutches the side of a table during a meeting with his defense minister.
Asked if the Covid-fearing Putin was in a state of “lockdown”, Karakulov replied: “Yes, it is. We still have a self-isolating president. We have to observe a strict two-week quarantine before any event, even those that last 15 to 20 minutes.
There’s a group of employees who’ve been cleared – who’ve been through this two-week quarantine. They are (considered) ‘clean’ and can work in the same room as Putin.”
And when asked about rumors that Putin was terminally ill, he seemed unaware of reliable information that the dictator is suffering, or is still suffering, from cancer.
‘It wasn’t something my colleagues discussed,’ he told Dossier. “If he has health issues, it must be because of his age.” Well, he probably has it. But I think it’s not something very serious.
He said: I can tell you that I went with him on many business trips, and he went on many trips before 2020.
After that he stayed in his dugout and probably made only one, maximum, three business trips a year.
“Considering the fact that there were many business trips, only one or two trips were canceled due to his health.”
“He is in better health than many other people his age,” Karakulov said. He has annual medical exams.

Karakulov said they had to observe a strict two-week quarantine before any event, even those lasting 15 to 20 minutes. Pictured: Putin appears to walk, limping, with a blanket on his lap as he attends the 2022 Russia Victory Day parade in Moscow in May.
He seemed notably clueless about Putin’s private life with gymnast Alina Kabaeva, 39, and their two young children.
But he confirmed that Putin has a £1 billion cliff-top mansion in Gelendzhik on the Black Sea, and Scheherazade’s private yacht, as previously revealed by independent Russian media.
It is unclear where the defector is now, but it is assumed that he is in the West.
But he made an appeal to the officers to provide evidence of Putin as a “war criminal”.
“I would like to address the Russian officers, including the FGS officers,” he said. You have information that is not broadcast on television. I only saw a small part of it. Come forward, back me up (with more evidence). You will help our citizens to find out the truth.
I’m sure you had questions about the actions of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces before, but the department forced you not to ask them (to them) and carry out his orders smoothly.
However, what is happening now (with the war in Ukraine) goes beyond all boundaries, defies reason.

You must not follow criminal orders and serve this war criminal, Vladimir Putin. I consider him a war criminal.
Karakulov said his invasion of Ukraine was “simply beyond comprehension”.
Multiple rocket launchers are used, and residential buildings and critical infrastructure are bombed.
“How many unknown victims of this war, how many of them are children? How many such victims is needed before you can stop bearing it?”
What is happening now in Ukraine, all this destruction, this war of aggression, terror and genocide of the Ukrainian people – there is no other word for it – all this is a criminal offense.
Our president has become a war criminal.
He urged those still inside Putin’s security service: “You have to stop following these criminal orders. FGS officers (FSO) are around the president all the time. You can just walk in and point out that this is a crime.”
“It is up to you to stop this madness very quickly. I hope you do because it will save many lives.”
In a message to the Russian people, he said: “Our president has lost touch with the world. He has been living in an information cocoon for the past two years, spending most of his time in his residences, which the media very appropriately call bunkers.

Karakulov said his invasion of Ukraine was “simply beyond comprehension” before calling Putin a “war criminal”.
He is pathologically afraid for his life. He surrounds himself with an impenetrable barrier of quarantine and an information vacuum. He values only his life and the life of his family and friends. The life of your family and friends does not interest him.
By tearing men from their families and sending them to slaughter in sovereign Ukraine, he shows that he does not care at all what happens to our country and Ukraine, by the fact that he brings misfortune, destruction and death to the fraternal people of Ukraine and to us.
He said that the “criminal war” must be ended as soon as possible. “Life is the highest value. We have forgotten it in this country. People are considered cannon fodder.
And this will remain the case as long as we remain silent. This war must end and it is time to break the silence.
Karakulov – who has worked at the FGS since 2009 – fled when he was sent on a business trip to Kazakhstan to prepare for Putin’s visit.
The defector said that on this trip in October 2022 – during the war – Putin had his own bomb shelter.
“It’s kind of paranoid,” he said. Putin is “simply afraid.”

Karakolov’s wife and daughter also fled separately, via Kazakhstan and Istanbul.
They haven’t come after me with Novichok (nerve gas) yet, but they’ve already gone to see my relatives, and I think the reason for this slow interest in me is that they think: ‘There are many more of these engineers, one more, one less, who cares!’
He is under investigation in Russia for “escaping”.
The captain has installed private communications links for Putin in his planes, helicopters, yachts and armored trains.
He is increasingly using the train because it is less visible.
Aircraft appear in certain (databases). While there is a train, how many gray trains are there? And most importantly, they cannot be traced back to any information source. It was done for stealth purposes.
He said: ‘The president also has a phone booth that we do on every overseas trip. It is a place where you can have guaranteed confidential conversations.
“The booth, of course, is huge. It is a cube about 2.5 meters high.
“Inside there is a work station and a telephone, which one can use to talk without fear of these conversations being overheard or read by foreign intelligence.”
This box always travels abroad with Putin’s nuclear suitcase which he can use to unleash an atomic war.
