A 54-year-old man died in a devastating fire at a house in suburban Sydney.

Emergency services rushed around 10 p.m. to a unit in Punchbowl, in the southwest of the city, after neighbors sounded the alarm.

Police and firefighters arrived to find the Highclere Avenue house was already on fire and when paramedics reached the occupant he could not be revived.

The man died instantly.

Police are appealing for help as they investigate the cause of a fatal fire at a house in Punchbowl, south-west Sydney on Saturday night.

“A 54-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but died at the scene,” NSW Police said in a statement.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze.

They ask anyone with relevant information or video, including that from a home security system, to contact Bankstown Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
