Despite what your mom says, she may have a favorite, according to a new study.

A recent poll of 2,000 adults in the United Kingdom found that 23 percent of mothers admitted to having a favorite.

Additionally, 24 percent of men polled by the OnePoll firm claimed they were their mothers’ favorite, compared to 17 percent of women.

This seems to hold true across countries. About 40 percent of Americans who grew up with siblings believed their parents had a favorite child, according to conducted research of the Institute for Family Studies.

And amid these findings, psychologists have uncovered the subtle signs that that special sibling might be you.

“Often a mother’s favorite will be a child with personality similarities to their own – sometimes even the child who most reminds them of their younger self,” says British behavioral psychologist Jo Hemmings. told StudyFinds.

But there are also other signs, she adds. These include if your mom or dad consistently chooses your name or birthday for her passwords, and if mostly your photos adorn her office or home.

You should also pay attention to who gets the most effort for their birthday.

Then there are the less tangible things that you may have to work harder to identify. This includes looking for subtle signs of who your mom or dad prefers, such as who they choose to sit next to at dinner and who they talk about most often.

Hemmings said flowers are a surefire way to win your mom over this Mother’s Day. ‘Flowers positively stimulate three of our most powerful senses – smell, touch and sight, which when combined bring us endless amounts of joy.’

But you may not even be the best judge of where you stand in relation to your siblings.

Researchers from Purdue identified that children are wrong about 60 percent of the time when they guess whether they are their mother’s favorite.
